Passion For Art

Igal Ahouvi is passionate both about acquiring important works of art and about the art community.
He educated himself about art through reading, visiting exhibitions, and collaborating with curators and dealers. He still retains his first acquisition, a still-life of flowers purchased at Notting Hill’s flea market, as a token from his early forays into the art world. Since then, he has built his collection by remaining cognisant of the contemporary art scene and by keeping an eye on its currents and intricate trajectories.

Ahouvi is fascinated by the dialogue between works of art and the audience as well as the ways art interacts with people. He is attracted to works that tend to challenge our understanding and preconceptions of the world, morals, and reality. On the one hand, he enjoys artists who have shaped the discourse of the twentieth century and influenced other artists. On the other, he follows and buys pieces by emerging artists that articulate new ideas.

The Development of Igal Ahouvi Art Collection

Since 2005, Ahouvi’s purchases have exceeded the accommodating space as a private contemporary art collection took shape and form. Igal Ahouvi Art Collection now functions as an institution, with an appointed director, a registrar, archive, and storage facilities. Ahouvi hired and collaborated with several prominent art curators, now working with Matan Daube. He continues to seek works of art and experiences that create something unique, that add to the conversation, and that deliver a powerful enigmatic experience.

Igal Ahouvi Art Collection is available to all via its website. Notable works of art from the collection are also lent out to museums for their shows, and some of the collection has been made available to the greater public through several exhibitions in Israel at the Genia Schreiber University Gallery of Art at Tel Aviv University.

Ahouvi sits on the board of directors of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and is a major sponsor of Fresh Paint Art Fair in Tel Aviv, where he also has created The Most Promising Artist Award for emerging Israeli artists and funded a solo exhibition for the award winners.
